I loosely follow a superb talent named Jessica Bell. By “loosely follow,” I mean I don’t frequent her blog and website as much as I’d like, but we see each other often and comment on Facebook and other social media. Come to think of it, I loosely follow many people, but that seems to be the only way I can accommodate everyone and everything I like. Works for me.
I also have and recommend two of the pocket guides from her Writing in a Nutshell Series: Show and Tell in a Nutshell, and Adverbs and Clichés in a Nutshell. Excellent advice written in plain and simple terms with spot-on examples. She’s definitely someone to watch in the publishing world!
But I’m not writing about her past accomplishments, of which there are many (did you realize she’s a contemporary fiction author, award-winning poet, singer, songwriter, guitarist and a former member of the indie band spAnk?), today I’m addressing the release of Indiestructible, an anthology of the experience of indie publishing by some of today’s hottest talents, compiled and edited by Jessica. You know I’m sometimes honest to a fault in my writing and take most words literally. “Follow” to me is reading every post, all the time (and some blogs I do).
“Semi-follow” is when I catch most of them, but not all of them, as much as I’d like to. Writer Unboxed falls in that category. LOVE the site, just can’t get to it every day and read the others I follow. And loosely follow means I follow on various sites, which actually works out GREAT. I seem to get to know the people much better that way. Just can’t read every blog, and if I see them elsewhere, that will have to do.
So when I wrote this, I used that term, but then I thought, “That sounds a little fickle,” so I had to back it up with your brilliance. Anyway, to say “I follow” someone I “loosely follow” sounds so phony. Kiss, kiss Hollywood stuff, and believe me, I’ve had experience with that.
Who knew I could complicate following and break it down to its minutiae? But that’s how this mind works.
You had it right…too many brilliant folks out there and I want a piece of each and every one. I’m a pig. 🙂
