Spotlight On: Laura Eno and Jewel of Shaylar

Spotlight Stormtrooper
A little known fact: Laura was Stormtrooper #57 and hooked up with R2D2 later in
“Star Wars After Dark.”

Today I shine my Spotlight On: Laura Eno, author extraordinaire, which just so happens to coincide with the release of her newest book, Jewel of Shaylar. Funny how things worked out that way…almost as if it were planned.

Want to know what it’s about? Here’s a short synopsis that you’re sure to dig:

Archaeologist David Alexander investigates the cave where his father disappeared and hurtles into another world, one filled with magic and bizarre creatures. The mad ravings in his father’s journals of icemen and dragons may not be fantasies after all.

Convinced his father may still be alive, David begins a treacherous journey to find him and discover a way home. Along the way, he encounters a few unlikely friends—a Dreean warrior, a beautiful thief and a satyr—who join him on his search.

David’s arrival into this new world sets off an explosive chain reaction of events. Faced with powerful adversaries and few clues, he may not get the chance to rescue his father before disaster strikes, condemning both of them to death. Or worse.

Congratulations, Laura, on the book’s release! That synopsis is an adventure in it’s own right, and whets my appetite for more than a nibble. If you’re feeling the same, then follow these links for all your needs concerning:

After you read the excerpt of the first chapter (I think it might even be the entire chapter), you’ll need those purchase links!

Why do I follow Laura (and why should you)?

I remember when I first stumbled across Laura’s blog through the IWSG. “Oh gee…romance,” I muttered. And then I didn’t go back.

I was such a genre snob.

But after awhile of seeing her around the rooms and reading her comments (which can be quite witty), I decided to pop by again. It happened to be on a Tuesday.

Write your will before heading over.
Update your will before heading over.

If you haven’t discovered “Tuesday Tea with Mistress Snark,” then you’re really missing out on something outrageously entertaining. LOVE THEM. They’re the reason I started frequenting her blog more often.

Teatime is a hoot with each and every post, and boasts some very talented guests with vivid imaginations…or should I say “hallucinations.”

Afterward, I noticed several things about her site that I came to appreciate. There is much more to this remarkable woman than romance!

Laura is one-of-a-kind:

  • She’s creepy.
  • She’s kooky.
  • Mysterious.
  • Spooky.
  • Oh…and all together ooky, too.
  • A love of diversity.
  • Supportive of the writing community.
  • Talented.
  • A wicked sense of humor (you must get to know her on a personal level)!
  • A genuine sweetheart.
  • And her punch—well, Jezebel’s—is so tasty. Just like candy.

Make sure to venture over there for a spot of tea on Tuesday. I think it has addictive properties, because you’ll most definitely keep going back!

And buy her book, Jewel of Shaylar!

Peace,

ML Swift

  1. *asphyxiation setting in from laughing too hard and snorting Jezebel’s special spice blend into my fragile, human lungs*

First of all, NOBODY was supposed to know about R2D2 and me…

Second, I have a sudden urge to grow my hair very long and dye it black…

Thank you so much, Mike! You put a big ole smile on my face and a blush on my cheeks.

If you remember anything at all about romance writers, remember this – many a horror novel started out as a romance. No? Maybe it’s just me, then. 😉

    1. Laura, it was obvious to everyone about R2…what with the whistles and beeps he’d make. I didn’t have to tell a soul.

And it’s true about horror and romance…the two go hand-in-hand. Like Jekyll and Hyde.

      Congrats again on the release!

  2. OK great, if I have that theme song stuck in my head all day, I’m coming after the both of yens (Pittsburghese slang).

All I have to say about Jewel is: READ IT. Soooo good.

And yes, Laura’s pretty cool too. Did she tell you about the illegitimate offspring from her little indiscretion? Oh.. nevermind….

    1. I loved the first chapter! Excellent.

Laura didn’t have to tell me anything about little R2, or Arty, as they call him. She’s posing with the little appliance in her bio pic. 🙂

    1. I tell you, Alex, if you don’t drink it, then the fumes from the tea will get you anyway. She works it that way. They’ll loosen you up until you do drink!

      Laura is awesome.

    1. Laura’s a doll…easy to show the love for a gal like her. And she’s got a nice pair of gams.

When did I turn back the clock to 1930? Thanks for coming by, Jennie.

  3. I’ve adored Laura since I first met her, and she writes a dang entertaining book. The teas are certainly a hoot and I really like Death and Cronos on Fridays.

  4. Congrats to Laura on her new book. Mike, if you and Julie says it’s a good read, then you’ve definitely upped my curiousity for it and I’ll have to fondle her pages.
    Nice tribute.

  5. I adore Laura! I stalk … er … uh … follow her everywhere! Not to mention, getting lost in those great words of hers. Now listen, there is no need to make fun of her … um … R2D2 fetish. I mean, seriously, he talks dirty – they censor him like crazy!

    1. So that’s what all the beeps are…censorship!

We all stalk Laura and watch in awe from the sidelines at her abilities. I say “from the sidelines” because of the 50-foot restraining order.
